HOTEL SAINT VINCENT
Friend and partner in several developments, Jayson Seidman, approached VIDA with an incredible opportunity to transform a historic orphanage in New Orleans’ renowned Lower Garden District. Together, we collaborated on crafting a vision and concept for the hotel property, providing full-scope landscape architecture services which included pool areas, terraces, courtyards and parking facilities. The 75-room Hotel Saint Vincent, originally built in 1861, has been a significant landmark on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. Early in the process, visionary hotelier and investor Liz Lambert joined the project, known for her ability to create spaces that extend into communities, we collaborated with Liz’s team to create what is now one of New Orleans' most sought out destinations. Preserving this historic building in a flood-prone region was a key objective. VIDA developed strategies for managing stormwater runoff while maintaining preservation ordinances. The planting palette included native and naturalized species, adaptive landscaping and heritage planting. The intricate brickwork paving and patterns were carefully designed, with special attention given to outdoor illumination.
