HACIENDA PITAYA

Set within a small valley surrounded by pristine forest sits this low-density ecolodge, carefully positioned to prioritize immersive forest views. The site, once a degraded cattle farm, was thoughtfully regraded and restored to accommodate a collection of fifteen forest cabins and elevated tree-top suites. Designed by New York–based architect Henry Jessup, the canopy cabins are raised on stone pillars, connected by a network of elevated boardwalks. Mesh walkways allow guests to experience the flowing landscape beneath them while minimizing impact on surrounding flora and fauna. VIDA was engaged from the outset, leading the masterplanning, hardscape, and planting design. As lead consultant, VIDA also oversaw infrastructure and engineering coordination, while contributing to architectural and material decisions to ensure a cohesive, site-responsive vision. The primary amenity is a communal house and pool designed around an integrated stormwater management strategy that increases water infiltration and reduces irrigation demand during the dry season. An extensive orchard of more than 300 fruiting trees was established throughout the property, providing fresh seasonal produce for guests year-round.
