the Drifter hotel
When a long-time friend and hotelier Jayson Seidman from Basic Hotels approaches you with a new design challenge in a new city, you accept, of course. This particular challenge involved the project visioning, site design and landscape for a 1950s motel in an emerging neighbourhood of New Orleans. Like many of VIDA’s projects, working within a defined budget influenced many of the design decisions made in the short timeframe available. A relaxed subtropical planting palette and hardscape areas complement the retro fit-out and has seen this project become a benchmark for the transformation of New Orleans’ hospitality industry and hosted some of the city’s coolest events.
